Ever stuck in one of those client conversations trying to explain the difference in quality and cost between a “honda” version of an eLearning solution and a “lexus” version? Here’s another situation: Your client wants a “wow” course. So….you ask…what does “wow” mean? To which they promptly reply with many more ambiguous descriptors. This is certainly not their fault. Here’s another situation that recently occurred for me: My client was very interested in using course completions as measure of success. It was a great opportunity to segue into a measurement approach based on learner impact. (Do you want 100 completions or 50 Level 3 completions?)
There is an easy strategy to get everyone thinking about scope and quality quickly and easily. Use a Learner Impact Rater. Ask stakeholders and project sponsors to choose which rating they’d like the design to target. Once chosen all design strategies and features AND measure strategies can be aligned to meet the rating. It saves tons of time and cost. It quickly focuses the conversation on what matters: learner impact.
